REVIEW
"To Be In It!" by Mr Finn
To Be In It! feels like stepping into a lucid dream. It’s warm, immersive and deeply human in a way that only a quintessential Mr Finn track can pull off. From the very first seconds, the gradual introduction to each instrument and delicate chimes immediately set the scene, creating this weightless atmosphere that gently pulls you into the song’s world before a single lyric is delivered. The motif of the chime becomes one of the track’s defining features, subtly threading its way throughout the arrangement and giving the whole piece this hypnotic sense of continuity.
Sacha’s vocals are poetically angelic. There’s such an effortless softness to her delivery that balances perfectly against the psychedelic instrumentation. The ethereal harmonies by Aysha add so much emotional depth – they almost feel like they’re floating around rather than simply sitting in the mix. It gives the track this dreamlike, out-of-body quality without ever losing its warmth.
Instrumentally, the song is incredibly well constructed. Finn’s drums are especially tight throughout, locking the entire arrangement together without overpowering the lushness around them. The snare tone deserves particular mention too, it’s crispy and punchy, but still organic to suit the hazy palette of the song. Every element feels intentional. Nothing fights for space and that’s what makes the mix so impressive overall: it’s beautifully balanced. The guitars shimmer, the percussion breathes, the bass has groove and every texture has room to shine naturally.
There’s also a hopeful undertone running through the track that becomes more apparent as it progresses. Even in its more introspective moments, To Be In It! never feels cynical or defeated. That emotional payoff lands perfectly in the final lyrics: “But life is brand new every day. And now I just can’t wait to be in it!” It’s uplifting and genuinely cathartic.
The bridge might be the song’s most transportive moment. The returning chimes become more prominent here, reinforcing them as an overarching motif throughout the track, while the subtle ocean sound effect and tambourine add even more atmosphere to the experience. It genuinely feels cinematic.
The strings in the final stretch are a real treat. Those soaring layers are such beautiful textures, really adding to the hopeful and emotional essence of the song. They subtly bloom beneath the instrumentation, giving the closing moments a sense of release and wonder.
The music video perfectly mirrors the song’s dreamlike emotional pull, unfolding in slow motion with an intimate and melancholic atmosphere. Bathed in soft light and shadowy tones, the visuals feel almost weightless. Sacha, who is the star of the clip, delivers a magnetic performance. One of the most beautiful shots sees her sitting atop a bundle of sheer fabric, staring upward before delicately slipping on a vintage-style wedding dress – a moment that feels deeply symbolic yet open enough for interpretation. As the song reaches the bridge, the visuals shift alongside the emotional momentum; Sacha runs outside smiling, introducing this subtle but powerful sense of liberation and hope. The final minute of the video is especially beautiful, with a lingering shot of her running down the street toward the camera, capturing the same emotional release that the song itself builds toward.
To Be In It! unfolds patiently and naturally, rewarding repeated listens with new little details. It’s a true psychedelic trip wrapped into under six minutes – immersive, heartfelt and unmistakably Mr Finn.
